In her own words.
"I care about people. I always have.
I am a good legislator because I listen to the concerns I hear from my neighbors and work with my peers to come up with innovative solutions. I believe in the value of listening to, and considering, all viewpoints before passing legislation that will affect the lives of NH residents."
"I am happy to be running with Jim Allard. We may not agree 100% of the time but we do share a common set of values - and that is what's most important.
Jim is someone I believe in and trust to make wise decisions on behalf of the people of Chichester and Pittsfield.
Jim and I make an excellent team, because we agree that the most important thing for us as elected officials is to listen to, and represent YOUR VOICE in Concord."
She grew up in Peabody, MA, where she listened to her older brother and father continually challenge each other on political issues. In January of 2007 when she took her first oath of office as a member of the NH House Representatives, she thought about her dad with gratitude for sharing his lifelong passion for politics and service to others.
She moved to NH in 1974 to teach school. Five years later, she and her husband Doug bought their “starter home” in Chichester, which has become their “forever home.” It is where they raised their only child, Irene along with assorted dogs, cats and a Toucan!
From 2011-2017, Sally was a member of the Chichester School Board, and its Chair for 2 years. She is currently the School Moderator for Chichester.
This experience coupled with her teaching background has helped fuel her passion to find a better way to fund education through state funding rather than the current system of town funding, that relies on ever-increasing property taxes.
Sally served the people of Chichester and Pembroke in the NH House from 2007-2010 and again from 2012-2014. She was honored with the role of Vice Chair of Labor, Industrial & Rehabilitative Services for four of her six years in office. Her Committee leadership position gave her a stronger voice on behalf of the community she served.
Sally's love of education and commitment to helping others led her to serve on the Board of the Pine Haven Boys Center in Allenstown, beginning nearly 20 years ago. Today, she is the Board President of this residential treatment center that cares for 20 boys from 5-14 years of age. Residents find their way to Pine Haven as the result of abusive backgrounds that lead to unhealthy behaviors. These boys find a safe and caring place to heal and grow at Pine Haven.
She and her husband are members of IHM Church in Concord where Sally taught Faith Formation for many years and is currently a lector.
She also supervises a monthly volunteer team at the Concord Food Pantry.
She credits her 44 year career working for a National Flooring Cooperative as the perfect preparation for being a NH State Representative.
She not only created a program that connects more than 1000 North American retailers to share strategies and best practices with each other, she visited them in 48 states and 6 Canadian Provinces to listen to their successes and challenges. Her job was to assimilate that information, and work with the rest of the Executive Team in Manchester to come up with creative and viable solutions to help those retail members enjoy long-term success.
